Good Thailand travel planning begins with one main reason to go. Choose culture and food, a slower coastal stay or a balance of city and rest. Compare our destination guides, explore 3 to 14-day itineraries and save places in your trip planner. Keep arrival and transfer time visible rather than filling every day with fixed stops.
Where should I go on my first trip to Thailand?
Start with the days you can actually use. Bangkok suits a city break built around food, temples and neighbourhood walks. Pair it with Chiang Mai for a city-and-culture route, or choose Hua Hin for time on the mainland coast. With a week, our suggestion is two bases at most. The 7-day Thailand itinerary shows how arrival, sightseeing and a transfer can fit together.
How many days do I need?
Three days works best as a focused stay in one place. Five days gives you more room for a day trip or a slower pace. In seven to fourteen days, you can combine destinations, but every move uses time for packing, checkout and the journey itself. How much should I budget?
Build the total from your actual route: rooms, meals, long-distance transport, local journeys and the sights you want to visit. A cheap flight can cost more once bags and airport transfers are included. Our Thailand travel budget guide includes worked examples you can adjust. Treat those examples as planning allowances and replace them with prices for your dates.
Should I choose Bangkok, the north or the beach?
Choose the days you want to have. Pick Bangkok for a city stay, Chiang Mai or Sukhothai for a heritage focus, and a coastal base for a quieter stretch by the water. If you are torn between Bangkok and the beach, compare the whole journey between them before booking two hotels. You do not have to include every part of Thailand in one holiday.
