Destination Thailand Visa: DTV requirements

Remote work, eligible Thai activities and dependants: evidence, stay periods and official applications.

The Destination Thailand Visa, or DTV, is a purpose-based route for qualifying workcation visitors, specified Thai activities and eligible family members. It is a multiple-entry visa with five-year validity and up to 180 days per entry. Match your actual activity to the appropriate application track and prepare the evidence required by the Thai mission responsible for your current residence.

The three DTV application tracks

Workcation applicants use evidence of overseas employment, remote work or a professional freelance portfolio. The Thai-activity track uses confirmation of an eligible activity, such as Muay Thai, culinary training or medical treatment. The dependant track is for a spouse or children under 20 of a DTV holder and requires proof of that relationship and the main holder’s DTV.

Destination Thailand Visa financial and document checks

London’s checklist requires financial evidence of at least THB500,000 equivalent, alongside a passport, recent photograph, proof of residence and purpose-specific documents. Its September 2026 update also requires a recent police-clearance certificate. That extra document is a London requirement; verify the checklist of your own responsible embassy rather than assuming all posts accept an identical file.

Validity, each stay and extensions

DTV validity is five years, with up to 180 days per entry. The published extension route allows one extension of no more than another 180 days per entry through Thai Immigration. The extension is an application, not an automatic addition. Keep both the visa expiry and your latest permitted-stay date visible in your plans.

Fees and where to apply

Apply using the official e-Visa system and the mission allocated to your actual location or residence. London publishes a GBP300 DTV fee; other posts charge their own published local-currency fee. Check accepted statements, translation or certification rules and the mission’s processing guidance before applying. bloggsandco does not process applications, accept visa fees or collect applicants’ passport documents.

DTV does not settle every work question

The workcation route is designed around the qualifying overseas-work purpose. If a Thai employer, Thai business operation or a different activity is involved, confirm the appropriate visa and work-permission route with the competent authorities. A visa is not a general exemption from employment, professional licensing or tax obligations. BOI offers separate LTR and SMART routes for qualifying applicants.

Before you leave and re-enter

Check your remaining visa validity, the admission period granted on your most recent entry and any extension decision. Complete a new TDAC when required for the next arrival. Check both sides of any land crossing: a DTV does not override a closed border or guarantee re-entry. Use the border directory and the linked authority rather than relying on an old visa-run itinerary.

Put the documents and route together

Choose the permission for your real purpose, then check your arrival steps and any border crossing separately. Keep enough time for an extension decision or a confirmed departure before your permitted stay expires.
