Thailand Myanmar border crossings

Current e-Visa entry rules, restricted routes and the difference between trade and tourist access.

Thailand Myanmar border crossings require particular care with conflicting or historical information. The current Myanmar e-Visa FAQ lists Kawthaung as the land entry point for tourist e-Visa holders. Older bilateral descriptions list other checkpoints, but those descriptions are not proof of today’s passport access, opening hours or safe onward travel. This guide was checked on 21 October 2026.

Current tourist e-Visa ports

The current Myanmar immigration FAQ lists Yangon, Mandalay and Nay Pyi Taw international airports and Kawthaung land checkpoint for entry with e-Visa. A valid visa for another purpose does not establish a right to use a different crossing. Ask the Myanmar authority and the Thai-side checkpoint to confirm the actual passport, visa type, purpose and travel date.

Check the security situation and onward route

The Myanmar border areas have travel restrictions and active-conflict risks in current official advice. Entry to a border town, local border-pass access and permission to travel deeper into Myanmar are different matters. Do not book an onward road journey simply because a bridge is processing some traffic. Read the advice for the exact state, region and route.

Thailand Myanmar border crossings: time zones and hours

Myanmar is UTC+6:30, half an hour behind Thailand. Thai-side schedules below are ICT and do not confirm the Myanmar counter’s hours. Where current foreign-passport hours are not established, the entry says so. A customs office’s weekday business hours or cargo opening is not substituted for tourist immigration clearance.

Mae Sai — Tachileik

Location: Chiang Rai / eastern Shan State
Hours: Thai-side published schedule 06:30–18:30 ICT
Status and access: Restricted / foreign-passport access unconfirmed. The local Thai page publishes the first bridge’s hours and describes the second bridge as cargo-only. Current Myanmar tourist e-Visa guidance does not list Tachileik as an eligible tourist e-Visa land entry. Local border-pass movement is not a general tourist admission.

Mae Sot — Myawaddy, Friendship Bridge I

Location: Tak / Kayin State
Hours: Current international tourist passenger hours not confirmed
Status and access: Restricted / foreign-passport access unconfirmed. The older bilateral checkpoint list does not establish current tourist admission. The current Myanmar e-Visa entry list does not include Myawaddy. Check both immigration authorities; do not infer permission from local vehicles or border-pass activity.

Mae Sot — Myawaddy, Friendship Bridge II

Location: Tak / Kayin State
Hours: Current ordinary tourist passenger hours not confirmed
Status and access: Cargo operation is not tourist entry. A 2026 Thai commerce statement describes reopening of trade at this bridge; it does not establish an ordinary tourist passport service. Confirm any permitted purpose directly.

Ranong — Kawthaung

Location: Ranong / southern Tanintharyi
Hours: Current passenger clearance and boat check-in times must be confirmed
Status and access: Listed for tourist e-Visa entry by Myanmar’s current official FAQ. This establishes an eligible e-Visa entry port, not a live guarantee of a boat, an open counter or unrestricted onward travel. Obtain the visa, trip and boat arrangements and confirm both sides before departure.

Ban Phu Nam Ron — Htee Khee

Location: Kanchanaburi / Tanintharyi
Hours: Current foreign-passport passenger hours not confirmed
Status and access: Restricted / current tourist entry unconfirmed. This route appears in the historical international agreement, but is absent from the current tourist e-Visa land-entry list. Obtain explicit approval for your passport and purpose before considering this route.

Singkhon — Maw Taung

Location: Prachuap Khiri Khan / Tanintharyi
Hours: No current ordinary international tourist hours verified
Status and access: Local or trade arrangements must not be treated as a tourist passport crossing. Current foreign-passport entry, operating hours and onward travel have not been established here. Use the competent checkpoint authority rather than a visa-run agent’s old route.

Huai Ton Nun — Nam Mpon

Location: Ban Huai Ton Nun, Mae Ngao, Khun Yuam, Mae Hong Son / Kayah State
Hours: No current ordinary international tourist hours verified
Status and access: Local or trade arrangements must not be treated as a tourist passport crossing. Current foreign-passport entry, operating hours and onward travel have not been established here. Use the competent checkpoint authority rather than a visa-run agent’s old route.

Confirm both sides before departure

Contact the responsible immigration checkpoint with your nationality, visa type, intended direction and travel date. Ask whether foreign-passport passengers are being processed, what time passport clearance stops and which transport is operating. An open cargo lane, a local border pass or a map listing does not answer those questions.
