Thailand Malaysia border crossings

Road, rail and sea routes, with both countries’ time zones kept clear.

Thailand Malaysia border crossings have different passenger, rail, ferry and cargo schedules. The directory below names seven road routes, the Tak Bai river route, international rail at Padang Besar and the Satun island or ferry routes. Published hours are dated baselines checked on 21 October 2026; unverified services are labelled rather than presented as open.
Information checked 21 October 2026. Rules and border operations may change. Read the clock correctly

Malaysia uses UTC+8, one hour ahead of Thailand’s ICT, UTC+7. A Malaysian 06:00 opening corresponds to 05:00 in Thailand. A midnight Malaysian closing corresponds to 23:00 in Thailand. Reach the passenger facility early enough to complete both sides’ procedures; road hours do not set train or ferry check-in deadlines.

Entry forms and southern travel advice

Check Malaysian visa eligibility and the Malaysia Digital Arrival Card through the official Immigration service; the free MDAC is submitted within the stated three-day window where required. Check the exemption list rather than assuming every traveller files it. Current UK advice warns against all but essential travel in Yala, Narathiwat and specified southern Songkhla districts, and on the Hat Yai–Padang Besar railway.

Sadao — Bukit Kayu Hitam

Location: Songkhla / Kedah
Hours: 05:00–23:00 ICT; 06:00–00:00 Malaysia
Status and access: Scheduled passenger service. The Malaysian parliamentary answer publishes these hours. The new connecting road opened in July 2026; follow current terminal signage rather than an old Danok gate pin.

Padang Besar road

Location: Songkhla / Perlis
Hours: 05:00–21:00 ICT; 06:00–22:00 Malaysia
Status and access: Scheduled road service. These are the parliamentary answer’s published hours; proposals for later closing are not treated as confirmed changes.

Wang Prachan — Wang Kelian

Location: Khuan Don, Satun / Perlis
Hours: 07:00–18:00 ICT; 08:00–19:00 Malaysia
Status and access: Scheduled service. Thai tourism-ministry discussion in 2026 describes 07:00–18:00 as the existing window and a proposed extension to 20:00. The later closing is not confirmed here.

Ban Prakob — Durian Burung / Kota Putra

Location: Na Thawi, Songkhla / Kedah
Hours: Published passenger baseline 07:00–17:00 ICT; reconfirm current hours
Status and access: Current passenger hours are not independently confirmed. The Malaysian university border guide gives 08:00–18:00 Malaysia time. Customs goods schedules can differ and should not be used as passport-clearance hours.

Betong — Pengkalan Hulu / Bukit Berapit

Location: Yala / Perak
Hours: Published passenger baseline 05:00–22:00 ICT; 06:00–23:00 Malaysia
Status and access: Scheduled service in published border guidance; reconfirm both sides before travel. Yala is within the area covered by current official travel warnings.

Su-ngai Kolok — Rantau Panjang

Location: Narathiwat / Kelantan
Hours: 05:00–21:00 ICT; 06:00–22:00 Malaysia
Status and access: Scheduled road service. Thai Immigration publishes these hours. International trains are a separate service; the existence of the road bridge does not establish an operating cross-border passenger train.

Buketa — Bukit Bunga

Location: Waeng, Narathiwat / Kelantan
Hours: Thai Immigration publishes 05:00–18:00 ICT
Status and access: Scheduled Thai-side service. Other published guides give different opening times; confirm both checkpoints before setting an early departure. Malaysia is one hour ahead.

Tak Bai — Pengkalan Kubor

Location: Narathiwat / Kelantan
Hours: Thai Immigration publishes 05:00–18:00 ICT
Status and access: Scheduled checkpoint hours do not guarantee a ferry departure. Confirm the boat, passport clearance and final check-in with both sides. Narathiwat is within the current official travel-warning area.

Padang Besar international rail

Location: Border station in Perlis, Malaysia
Hours: Immigration follows the booked international service; no universal daily window verified
Status and access: Train-dependent. Check SRT and KTMB departure, time zone and passport procedures. The road checkpoint’s closing time is not the railway check-in time.

Tammalang — Langkawi

Location: Satun / Langkawi, Kedah
Hours: Current international sailing and check-in times not confirmed
Status and access: Service unconfirmed for the travel date. Do not assume a daily ferry from the existence of the international pier; check immigration availability and a dated operator booking before purchasing onward connections.

Ko Lipe — Langkawi

Location: Satun / Langkawi, Kedah
Hours: Seasonal sailing and check-in times vary by operator
Status and access: Seasonal, booking-dependent service. Confirm a dated international departure and the operating Ko Lipe immigration arrangement. A domestic speedboat or an island map marker is not evidence of an available international crossing.

Confirm both sides before departure

Contact the responsible immigration checkpoint with your nationality, visa type, intended direction and travel date. Ask whether foreign-passport passengers are being processed, what time passport clearance stops and which transport is operating. An open cargo lane, a local border pass or a map listing does not answer those questions.
